Leuctembergia

Cactus

This genus, endemic to the Chihuahua desert of Mexico, is reminiscent of an Agave and consists of a single species, Leuchtenbergia principis. It is immediately recognizable due to its extremely elongated triangular tubercles which are arranged in a rosette. At the end of each tubercle is an areole with long, papery, flexible spines. Flowers are yellow and come from new tubercles in the centre of the rosette. Interestingly, Leuchtenbergia principis has been crossed with Ferocactus to make an inter-generic hybrid called xFerobergia.
